A True Comrade: Mr Jona

Running has always been one of those experiences we each look at with different memories evoked. For most, its probably related to high school or primary school where it was a compulsory task for athletics season. To some it’s probably a hobby taken up in the form of jogging and enjoying the occasional viewing of tournaments such as Olympics and other marathons such as the London, Paris and Comrades marathon among others.

The Comrades marathon has been ongoing for the past 100 years. Categorised as a 90 km ultra marathon between the South African cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Just hearing about that much of a distance, even trying to conceptualising how it’s a distance large enough to separate cities is pretty impressive. What’s even more unique about this year’s Comrades Marathon is that one of the EON Members, Batanai Jona accomplished this amazing fit by completing the 90km run. In an even more unique way, he utilised this opportunity to run for EoN. Raising some funds for the charity organisation where pledges were made for every kilometre he ran.

This initiative is one of the various ways the organisation has raised more money to support the fund supporting children in Zimbabwean schools. This in other ways is how we celebrate a true comrade among us, as we find more ways to fund creating equal opportunities for those disadvantaged.
